Continuing…
August 11, 2009
… where I left off with the last entry: hanging out with Matt & Jeff in Rotterdam. Changed the film to Acros100, in my Minolta XD-7.
Shiny Mamiya.
Back at my place.
I was shooting with both my rangefinder and SLR at the same time, this is just the SLR roll – in the next entry will be the rangefinder roll and the end of their visit (insert single tear).
Hanging out at Myrna’s plcae, first time since she came back from Sheffield. In June I think.
At that point I thought I was shooting colour and JD had such a nicely coloured hoodie, so I couldn’t help myself shooting him a lot.
Turned out I was shooting b/w, obviously. No biggie, would’ve been worse the other way around definitely!
No flash on the XD-7, so no photos of the night.
Next day, mildly hungover, I went sailing with my dad for a couple of days.
I’d like to call this piece of art: “Selfportrait on boat”.
My dad climbing through a small hatch to fetch something from the storagespace.
These still crack me up!
Next morning I woke up from the sound of a shutter. The sound of MY shutter!
And there was my dad standing on deck snapping photos of me sleeping and the only thing I could say was: “Hey, that’s film you know. Don’t waste it!”
(It took 4 frames till it stopped).
Well, that is it for now. Had a couple of rolls lying around for a while, but never came around putting ‘em up here.
Another one is already scanned and ready to be blogged, but I’m trying to refrain from mammoth entries :)
Will post it next week or so.
Hope you enjoyed and hope you’re well. Thanks for dropping by!
More Than Real
January 7, 2009
Hello all, so we made it into another year. Kudos. Time for some action. Or… photographs.
Finally scanned some rolls I had lying around that I shot with the Olympus XA the past months. Was a nice break from the digital frames that seem to be piling up. Also, I need to calibrate my screen – any shareware to recommend for that? Not too fond of the automatic calibration tool Mac provides.
Ok, enough talking. I promised some action.
APX400 with the XA.
Hanging out on the streets of Amsterdam before heading to a party. Back in September
Australian joined.
Back home in Rotterdam.
At the academy – I have no clue who took it. Probably Paul :)
This is turning out be a very anachronistic entry, I don’t really know in what order to show them – it’s all spread out over a couple of months.
Having a smoke on the balcony.
I still very much enjoy photographing this girl. Gonna miss her when she’s going to the UK for a couple of months.
And some more balcony action at night.
Morning after Bon Iver concert.
It’s not like I’ve got no other camera’s to photograph with when you’re holding one of them.
Familyday.
Very very boring guide.
Woah, those are the only two frames I took that day. I’m so much more selective when shooting film, especially with the XA. Nice for a change.
Some Superia 400 shots. After the concert of Le Loup in Nijmegen (which was freaking amazing).
We ran into Dennis. Nice surprise! That’s the fun of being back there.
We were slightly intoxicated by that time. And fell of the bike. That’s when we heard an alarm going off somewhere, so we went to check that out. After shaking off “helpful” guys.
We got home. And yeah, it was a great night. I think some of the b/w photos are actually from the morning after that. Ah, idno.
Some frames from the busride to Paris in November.
I can’t really say I enjoy busrides, but I love those little pitstops in the middle of fucking nowhere along the road.
Hanging out in Paris, photographing…
… trying to find the way.
And having a drink with Vincent & friends.
Back in the Netherlands and some digital frames from when M&M came to stay a weekend at my place.
We hung out on the beach. Which was freaking cold, but so nice.
I have a whole range of photos like the next one, just screaming to be turned into a .gif!
Perfect place to be converted? Wtf!
Back home.
At the end of December I got asked to shoot a party in Amsterdam. Which was awesome. Rented a speedlite, got paid, free booze, great music, wicked people… Awesome.
“Real dancers go that way.” (To another part of the club that just opened)
They asked for a photo and posed like this:
I swear! I’m not THAT a perv!
NYE:
Just hanging out at my place. Good times :)
We climbed the rooftop to watch the fireworks.
Next morning.
That’s it for now! Happy New Year and all that jazz!
People and places
November 23, 2008
So I’ve seen some people and some places the past couple of weeks.
Starting out with Li in Rotterdam. On our way to visit the Last Days of Shishmaref exhibition opening.
Zeynep having fun with her new lens.
“I kinda think we look like we’re up to no good.”
Same weekend my dad celebrated his 60th birthday with the family.
Dad contemplating his age and wisdom.
Camerashy nephew.
Can’t help but love (photographing) fish.
Which reminds me I need to buy myself some new little buggers for the aquarium here at home.
Fish with feet!
About 1,5 year ago I uploaded a frame of this very same fish. I still get at least 3 visitors on my blog per day who googled “fish with feet”, haha.
Me telling my grandma to smile for the photo:
My mom.
Sister and her boyfriend.
Couple of days later my class had the recap of the exhibition opening, over lunch. Hotel New York in Rotterdam.
Photography playtime!
Li and me headed into the photographymuseum.
How awesome is this photo?! By Martien Coppens if I remember correctly.
On my way home.
Skyline of Rotterdam.
I don’t think I could ever take a photo which accurately shows how much I’ve fallen in love with this city.
Next day: off to Paris!
Getting welcomed by Cha and Vincent. It was great seeing them again!
Testing Vincent’s sweet 24/1.4 on Renault.
Visiting Paris Photo.
Saw some stuff I really like:
And Saul Leiter! Man, that made it worthwhile going to the exhibit.
Met up with the Norwegian Englishman Trond.
Meeting back up with some of my classmates.
I don’t know what really happened here, but suddenly I got attacked by Asians and their cameras.
Lianne shakin’ that window like a Polaroid picture!
At the Lee Miller exhibit, where I didn’t take any photos because the guards almost literally jump on you when you try to take a frame. They scared the shit out of me.
Parisian skies.
Parisian cafés.
Having fun with Cha’s flash.
Moment of mutual understanding, shot by Cha.
Next day strolling the streets.
And me looking incredibly bored.
(Shot by Li)
But regained interest through lenses.
Lens swap happiness with Cha.
Got her 18-50/2.8 (and she my 50/1.8). So so happy to be shooting wide angle again!
Having goodbye drinks.
And back in class in The Hague again 2 days later…
Zeynep kicking about.
Arty dudes.
And having fun with the wide angle!
Hanging out with JD after the Jamie Lidell concert in Nijmegen:
More fun with the wide angle!
And returning home to Rotterdam the next day, finding a crime scene around the corner.
That’s it for now. Thanks for dropping by! Hope you enjoyed and all is well.
(I think I need to come up with a new closing line!).
