Parallel lines.

These shots were more or less shot around the same time (May/June) as the last blogpost, but with a different camera: the Olympus XA, loaded with APX400.
I’ve been taking quite some photos of my place recently. Maybe because I’m currently mostly working from there or perhaps because I’m having that itch again: I want to move. I’m not sure whereto or when. But yeah, there’s something going on that makes me want to document my place apparently.
An illustrator on my couch flipping through my photos.
Ladina, my ex-roommate was back in Rotterdam for a couple of days (from Switzerland)
Blurred JD.
Lots of people-on-my-couch frames.
Later that night operation slaugthering-a-mango-in-an-unvonventional-way started.
Succeeded!
Ah going back a little bit more in time – the last day I hung out with Matt & Jeff.
We took the train from Rotterdam to Amsterdam, it was their next stop on the trip and I had some business there as well: Junior Boys concert.
It was a cloudy day and every now and then the sun would break through and I tried to catch that light on Matt, but failed a couple of times.
Which was funny, yeah.
There, that was the frame I was looking for :)
So yeah, I had to say goodbye to the guys later that night unfortunately. It was good times, hope to do it again sometime in Chicago.
A little leap forward in time: birthday picknick in the Vondelpark.
Birthday girl & boy: Zhenia & Stergios.
Lots of food, lots of presents, lots of good times.
The cards spell out procrastination (we’re all struggling with our thesis I guess).
A shot by Zeynep of me in the bokeh trying to explain how to focus with the XA.
It started to rain, so we moved it under the trees (total Hamburg flashback).
Didn’t stop Stergios & Zhenia from playing badminton in the rain though. This was right after an amazing slide and falldown of Zhenia.
That was it for now – till next time!
Continuing…
August 11, 2009
… where I left off with the last entry: hanging out with Matt & Jeff in Rotterdam. Changed the film to Acros100, in my Minolta XD-7.
Shiny Mamiya.
Back at my place.
I was shooting with both my rangefinder and SLR at the same time, this is just the SLR roll – in the next entry will be the rangefinder roll and the end of their visit (insert single tear).
Hanging out at Myrna’s plcae, first time since she came back from Sheffield. In June I think.
At that point I thought I was shooting colour and JD had such a nicely coloured hoodie, so I couldn’t help myself shooting him a lot.
Turned out I was shooting b/w, obviously. No biggie, would’ve been worse the other way around definitely!
No flash on the XD-7, so no photos of the night.
Next day, mildly hungover, I went sailing with my dad for a couple of days.
I’d like to call this piece of art: “Selfportrait on boat”.
My dad climbing through a small hatch to fetch something from the storagespace.
These still crack me up!
Next morning I woke up from the sound of a shutter. The sound of MY shutter!
And there was my dad standing on deck snapping photos of me sleeping and the only thing I could say was: “Hey, that’s film you know. Don’t waste it!”
(It took 4 frames till it stopped).
Well, that is it for now. Had a couple of rolls lying around for a while, but never came around putting ‘em up here.
Another one is already scanned and ready to be blogged, but I’m trying to refrain from mammoth entries :)
Will post it next week or so.
Hope you enjoyed and hope you’re well. Thanks for dropping by!
Hamburg.
July 27, 2009
In May I went to Hamburg to meet up with a cute backpacking Australian I met back in September in Amsterdam.
He was already a couple of days in Hamburg and took me to his newfound friends who quickly became my newfound friends as well.
The b/w frams are Neopan1600, shot with the Minolta XD-7 with… the 50/1.7 I believe.
And I know what you’re thinking: “1600 in broad daylight?!” Yes, I was lazy – sue me.
This is Bob, the sweetest guy you’ll ever meet!
He took us to an amazing Thai restaurant, and a great fish diner and also to a barbecue!
Dom, peculiar guy.
Shot of Nick hiding behind his beerbottle.
And as a payback he shot me (hiding behind a cigarette).
We had to move it under the trees when it started to rain like crazy.
After the barbecue Bob took us to a goa party in the fields outside Hamburg,
which was nothing short of amazing.
In the meantime we were soaked by rain though
and obviously my lens (and my own mind) were a bit fogged (for different reasons though).
Next frames are Superia400 shot with the Olympus XA.
I used both cameras on the same days, so yeah byebye chronology.
Nick and me had a hard time getting up early enough for breakfast at the hostel,
so we went out and got this real nice plate.
And yeah, that’s pretty much the reason why it was so hard to wake up in the morning :D
We hung out in some pretty awesome bars in the Schanzenviertel and then continued the hanging out at Chris’.
Man-crush James, who had a hard time convincing people he’s from Ireland.
The very hospitable Chris.
And on the last day we continued our carefully crafted dayschedule of drinking coffee…
…and hanging in the park.
Thanks again for a great time, Bob! Hit me up when you’re in Amsterdam!
Pretty exhausted after pulling an allnighter and sitting half a day in the train I arrived home in Rotterdam. But I was not the only one being on the train that day – because an hour after I arrived Matt and Jeff from Chicago visited me!
In the tradition of the past days we drank and talked all night and saw the sun, yet again, rise.
Next day another tradition got continued: hanging out.
(Damn, May was SUCH a good month!)
Last two frames on the roll. I got more to show though! Some nice b/w frames I just collected from the lab. (And am actually quite pleased with for once).
But I’ll keep those for a next entry!
Thanks for dropping by, hope all is well with you guys.
